Chai lattes are my favorite drink. When I get one from a coffee shop, it’s always full of caffeine and sugar which my stomach can’t always handle. I’ve tried making them at home for a while and they never tasted the same…until now! This caffeine free chai latte is my new go to drink at home.
This recipe is surprisingly easy and quick to make. You will need a frother if you want the non-dairy milk to be fluffy!
With this recipe, you can save money by skipping the coffee shop AND you can have more control over the ingredients used.
The following makes one caffeine free chai latte:
- 2/3 cup water
- 1/2 tsp chai spice – I use this brand, otherwise you can combine the following:
- cinnamon, cardamom, black pepper, ginger, allspice and clove
- 1/3 cup non-dairy milk
- 1 tsp vanilla (skip if milk already has vanilla in it)
- Optional: sweetener of choice
Heat up water (in microwave or on stovetop) and pour into a mug. There should be about an inch of room left on top for the milk. Mix in chai spice thoroughly.
Meanwhile, pour milk and vanilla (& sweetener if you like your drinks sweet) into a microwave safe mug and heat for 45 seconds. Next, use a frother to make the milk frothy. Make sure there’s extra room in the mug when you’re doing this so it doesn’t make a mess – I learned this the hard way.
Slowly pour the frothed milk on top of the hot water. You can sprinkle some cinnamon on top or some dairy free whipped cream for a little extra flavor / decoration. Enjoy while still warm!
How perfect. Keep these awesome recipes coming.
thank you! I plan on it 🙂
