Secret creamy smoothie ingredients below…
Smoothies are my go to meal because they rarely upset my stomach, and I love a sweet treat.
I often get asked how I make my smoothies so thick and creamy, so I wanted to share some simple tips with you all–along with an easy smoothie recipe, of course.
TOP SECRET INGREDIENTS:

You guessed it! Almond butter & bananas.
Some tips:
- Choose an almond butter that is creamy, not chunky. The ingredients should be simple. I prefer almond butter with only one ingredient: almonds. My go to almond butter, pictured above, is from Imperfect Foods. It’s always fresh and doesn’t separate like other brands! If you’re allergic to nuts, Sunbutter works great as well.
- The bananas should be slightly brown. Chop them up and freeze for at least 8 hours before using. I typically freeze mine overnight so they’re ready by the morning.
By using these two ingredients in your smoothies you’ll have a treat that is creamy like ice cream, but full of fiber, protein and healthy fats!
Strawberry Smoothie Recipe:
- 1 banana, frozen
- 5-6 strawberries, frozen
- 1/4 – 1/2 cup almond milk
- 1 heaping spoonful almond butter
- A dash of cinnamon
Banana and strawberries should be frozen. Slice them if they are not already, as they will blend easier. Add to blender along with almond butter and cinnamon. Pour in a 1/4 cup of almond milk and blend. If you’re having a hard time with blending, add more almond milk as needed. Do this slowly so your smoothie is not too watery.
