Grain Free Bagels

March 1, 2021 by Liv Well Eat Well 2 Comments

free from: gluten, grains, dairy and refined-sugar (paleo friendly)

Bagels are one of my favorite foods because they are delicious AND so versatile. You can make them sweet or savory, and add pretty much any topping you could want. These grain free bagels are so easy to make, you’ll never want to eat store bought again.

You can eat these with cream cheese, but I have also used these grain free bagels for loaded breakfast sandwiches and they held up SO well.

The trick is to cut them in half slowly with a sharp knife so they don’t crumble, and then toast for a minute or two. This will make them super sturdy and ready to be eaten! HOWEVER, I recommend using a panini press, toaster oven, or air fryer to heat these. They may fall apart in a regular toaster. You can still eat them untoasted, but they may be a bit crumblier. They last about a week in an airtight container, or longer in freezer.

The bagels are paleo, gluten free, and dairy free.

Grain Free Goodness

  • Eggs
  • Apple cider vinegar
  • Avocado oil
  • Maple syrup
  • Baking powder
  • Salt
  • Almond flour
  • Coconut flour
  • Arrowroot starch
  • Everything but the bagel seasoning

Substitutions:

These unfortunately cannot be made vegan because eggs are a key ingredient, but if you try to sub eggs let me know how it goes! Maybe something like aquafaba would work since it’s fluffier?

Here are some substitutions you can make: The maple syrup can be swapped for any liquid sweetener. You can swap coconut flour for cassava flour or regular gluten free flour (but then it won’t be grain free). You can replace arrowroot starch with tapioca starch as well.

You could also get creative with these. Add cinnamon and some raisins, maybe some garlic powder. The flavor ideas are endless! Let me know what you create.

I love that you keep coming up with such great ideas. So exciting. Where can I purchase thus cream cheese to go in the yummy bagels?

I have been living with a few chronic illnesses since my early 20s. I aim to control my symptoms as naturally as possible, which means a lot of restrictions on what I eat. At first, I only focused on what I could no longer eat, but eventually shifted my mindset to getting creative with the foods I can eat!

I started this page because I want to help others like me who struggle with dietary restrictions and/or chronic illness and still want to enjoy food. Many of my recipes are some mix of gluten free, dairy free, refined-sugar free, grain free, and/or vegan–and I’m always down to help you adapt a recipe to your needs!
